With Wimbledon not far off, I woke this morning with a full-on craving for lush sticky strawberries and cream.
Not the little ones that you can just pop on a cupcake, but the ones that are super large and take about three mouthfuls to eat. It got me thinking about our local Pick Your Own Farms where they are and what you should take on your very own fruit adventure.
So here’s and a handy list of 4 of the best local fruit farms.
Before you set out.
Call your chosen farm for particular directions or special instructions. You can also find out what’s in season and double check if kids are welcome, as not all farms allow children. You should also ask about opening and closing hours as these vary from location to location too.
What to bring.
Pack for a long day with wet wipes, plenty of water and a t-shirt change for everyone and wear old shoes. Also, add a mini first aid kit with suncream and sting cream.
Consider taking wide brim hats if it’s very sunny. Don’t forget your containers for carrying and bringing home; some farms charge a fee for these. Others will supply them.
On the day.
Make sure you make note of all the farm rules these are signposted around the farms by owners and will be different at each location. Some farms will also have a check in and check out areas.
Before you start to pick make sure you are aware of how you will be charged. Will this be in the count, volume, or weight? It’s also worth asking if you need to meet a minimum requirement. Always walk in the rows and never step across the plants.
We hope you enjoy our little guide and don’t forget, send us some photos as we’d love to see your “Pick Your Own” hauls!
