So whose dishwasher did multiple loads on Christmas Day and whose still eating turkey? If (like us) you are too, then let me share two of my favourite leftover recipes – a Thai Turkey Broth from Olive Magazine and The Soup Saver from Good Food which is a great way to get rid of any leftover veg, especially if you are not a bubble & squeak fan – both were originally published in 2010. I find them to be life savers and not just at Christmas as they make perfect starters or main courses and are super easy to put together, taking very little time – so certain to make you look like a kitchen whizz if you have guests over.
If you want to see 2013 in, in style (and have cash to splash) then Devonport House Hotel has a family themed New Years Eve planned. Guests can feast on the Head Chef’s three course gala buffet – complete with extra special ‘children’ sections – and then party the night away with the family friendly disco before welcoming in 2013 with a glass of fizz. Further info can be found here!
A great way for blowing away the cobwebs is the New Years Day Parade. Although the brass bands aren’t typically good for the head if you had one too many the night before, we’ve been told that January 2013 will be the parade’s 27th Anniversary. Set to start at 11.45am on Piccadilly outside the Ritz Hotel and finish at approximately 3pm at Parliament Street, the stars of the show are set to be the 33 London borough entries from across our Capital. The theme for 2013 is ‘Hats Off to London – Celebration Capital of the World’, we’ll see if Greenwich gets as special mention as the newest Royal Borough!
Many resolutions revolve around being fitter, healthier and greener. And for those with recycling in mind it’s handy to know that Greenwich will also recycle your real tree free of charge as part of normal rubbish collections. To get ready, just remove all the decorations, pot and place your tree at the front of your property where it can easily be seen by the green top collection team. Trees will be taken on your normal collection day so make sure it is put out with your bin before 6.00 am. If you don’t have a green top bin you can still leave your tree at the front of your property, there is no need to call for a special collection. Residents living in flats should leave their tree by the bin store/chambers
And lastly, for those of us not on a detox (or even if you are) the Wine O’Clock Club kicks off 2013 at the Greenwich Tavern. It’s set to be a great way to start the year so why not come along and tell us about your Xmas adventures. The details are live on our Facebook page under the Events tab. All are most welcome.
