Spring has finally sprung and it brings with it the refurbishment of the beautiful Pavilion opposite the Royal Observatory at the top of THAT hill that shows no mercy for the buggy-pushers amongst you!
Our re-opening, scheduled for the second week of April, has been a long time in the planning, the building needed a little more tlc than any of us had anticipated…but we hope that once opened, you’ll agree it was worth the wait. New counters, furniture, flooring and a complete redecoration will completely refresh the Café and make it a much cosier and inviting place to visit.
With such an array of visitors using Greenwich Park, we set out to create a Café to cater for everyone. If you’re joining us with the kids you’ll find the new Hungry Explorers picnic box or hot food menu strikes the balance with nutritious and filling choices, with a few treats thrown in.
Children are always very welcome – our fenced garden and terrace provide a safe place for the little ones to burn off some energy or when the weather’s not so great our activity sheets will keep them busy whilst inside.
For grown-ups our new menu changes throughout the day. From 9am breakfast can either provide a healthy start to your day with fresh smoothies and several yoghurt/granola/berry & honey combos. Or choose something heartier – a Knowles Farm sausage or smoked bacon cob or a Chelsea bun or rhubarb crumble muffin from our bakery selection.
Our lunch-time menu ranges from light dishes, sandwiches and seasonal salads to stone-baked flatbreads and daily specials such as dressed Rye Bay plaice, fennel, parsley and caper dressing or rainbow chard & lord on the hundreds cheese tart.
For morning coffee or afternoon tea, our bakery table is laden with sweet treats and healthy snacks – and we’re pleased to offer Union Ice Cream, made in nearby Bermondsey.
And introducing Mariya, our catering manager at Greenwich Park. Mariya has recently moved from the National Army Museum in Chelsea where she did a sterling job and was very popular with both her team and the visitors and the Museum’s regular customers. She’s looking forward to meeting the Greenwich Mums & Dads and getting to know the Park’s visitors so please do drop by and say hello! We’re very happy to accept GreenwichMums MumsCard which will secure you a 10% discount on your purchases.
We’re also looking forward to welcoming back all the local running groups and exercise classes that use the park for well earned post-exercise caffeine and carbs!
And as for Summer 2014 we’ll be opening the Pavilion on Friday evenings. Fully licensed and with a barbeque and music it’ll provide a great spot for the whole family to relax with friends. Keep an eye out for more information on our notice board in the Pavilion or on the website www.royalparks.org.uk
