Hugs all round!

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning fuelling the imaginations of your little ones being enchanted by Hugless Douglas and his friends. Cuddly bear Douglas appeared on stage to wow’s and ahhhs from the audience. It wasn’t long before the songs started with Douglas singing a bear, bear, bear like me as he ventured into the audience trying out hugs for size which brought cries of "hug me" from kids of all ages in the audience. The boulder song brought tons of laughter from everyone at the misfortune of the characters getting their toes and tummy’s squashed. At one point in the show the young girl sitting behind me cried out, “I like Douglas daddy, Douglas is sad, I want to hug Douglas”, I knew how she felt. The story unfolded with the introduction of various musical instruments and beautiful songs as well as a wonderful story filled with immense energy from the cast. The puppets held the children’s attentions all the way through. When the rabbit couldn’t be seen by Douglas my friend’s three year old daughter Freya nearly feel off her seat shouting and pointing, “he’s over there at the top of her little voice. My favourite song was, I miss you, it made me cry. Audience participation involved hoping about and doing the daisy chain hug which was fun, I’m so glad they didn’t ask us to try the upside down hug. I can’t imagine a more beautiful story to send your little loved ones off to sleep. Blunderbus have done author and illustrator David Melling proud here in the way they’ve portrayed his book. It’s a wonderful family show that I believe is on tour now for the next eighteen months. I’d recommend it not only your for children but to all mums and dads to remind us just how important and precious a HUG is. My seven year old daughter Megan hasn’t stopped hugging me and telling me, “ Mummy I love hugs but they missed out a family hug”. She loves her family hugs so much and they have to include our Jack Russell Billy. We all loved this production and I for one will be making sure we go and see more of what Blunderbus has to entertain us.
