About this event:
Concert by St Paul’s Sinfonia conducted by Andrew Morley with music by Honegger, Wallace and Pergolesi at St Alfege Church.
This event is suitable for: Adults only
This event costs: £13 and £10
As many of you will know, the January St Paul’s Sinfonia is a showcase for the virtuosity and splendour of the string sections. This year is no exception – though we’ve also invited some friends along for the ride!
We’ve got a premiere – of David Wallace’s Hexad. We’ve got Honegger’s Symphony No. 2, which is one of THE great works for strings; and because the Honegger includes a tiny part for solo trumpet, we’ve got Alan Hovhaness’s beautiful and serene Prayer for St Gregory, with our principal trumpet, Laura Garwin. And finally, we’ve got one of my all-time favourite works – Pergolesi’s astounding Stabat Mater, with soprano Esther Mallett and counter-tenor James Hall.
