About this event:
The Makerversity Farmopolis residency sees the jetty transformed into a mini-university for kids aged 6-11 hosting an array of hands-on design and making workshops during Autumn Half Term (24th-28th October 2016).
This event is suitable for: 4 - 7 years, 8 - 12 years
This event costs: 1 workshop for £10 or book onto all five classes (Full Week Pass) at a reduced £45.
In this first workshop puppeteer Sara Ekenger will work with the participants to create animal marionettes from recycled materials.
Jewellery & Metalwork designers Tanvi Kant and Alice McLean will lead a workshop that will involve creating long tendril like vines with elemental rope-making techniques. These can then be stitched to make into a vessel form or using wire, create freestanding plant-like spiral forms. The final outcomes can either be made individually or collaboratively in parent/child pairs.
In this workshop we’ll learn about the world’s most ancient natural dye. Indigo comes from a species of plant found throughout southeast Asia. It’s a natural plant that creates beautiful and vivid shades of blue. In this workshop you will learn about it’s natural sustainable properties and learn some different resistance techniques to create bold and unique patterns.
In this workshop participants will get a fun introduction to graphic art and visual identity. Learners will put together their own plant related designs and use a heat press to apply it to bags and/or aprons that they can take home.
During this workshop, participants will go through a full design process, starting with idea generation, sketching and moving onto computer design and model making with 3D printers. We aim to teach children skills related to design, architecture, engineering, project planning and teamwork. We use the latest 3D design software and 3D printing technology.
