Tickets are now on sale for the second Greenwich Book Festival, being held at the start of the summer half-term at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich and National Maritime Museum.
Grand in setting, intimate in scale, a fantastic line-up of author events and creative workshops for kids and adults kicks off on Friday May 27 with a free schools day for participating local primaries and adult events like ‘Natural Navigator’ Tristan Gooley explaining How To Read Water during the school day.
Then, from 4pm, there is a Friday after-school club with Michelle Robinson’s Good Night, Spaceman (ages 3-6), comic performance poet and writer AF Harrold (7+) and a workshop with Linda Scott (7+).
On Friday evening we have a Women’s writing showcase including emerging talent Laura Barnett (The Versions of Us), Lisa Owens (Not Working) and Amy Liptrot (The Outrun). Your summer reading sorted! Saturday’s kids schedule includes Andy Stanton (Mr Gum), Chloe Inkpen, a Harry Potter show, Lauren St John, Jim Smith (Barry Loser), real-life explorer Justin Miles advising on safe adventuring and brilliant local toyshop, Ottie and the Bea, running a mini-festival of workshops with the likes of Ben Newman’s Professor Astrocat and Mango and Bambang creators Polly Faber and Clara Vulliamy. Adults can enjoy Sara Pascoe, Chris Cleave, Hollie McNish, Kate Summerscale, Brix Smith-Start and a Saturday indie night and a Friday evening showcase of women’s writers with the-pool.com including.
The Greenwich Book Festival, organised by local parents, is hosted by the University of Greenwich, as part of the Royal Greenwich Festivals. Some events are free. The rest cost £5-£11. www.greenwichbookfest.com
