October half-term falls at a funny time of the year. Smack bang as the nights draw in and the clocks go back. For some, the summer feels like yesterday and for others so very far away, and for these reasons, I think its a week or two that catches everybody out.
Coupled with the fact it’s the Halloween holiday it can leave the best of us at a loose end or mindblown at all the possibilities.
Should you wrap them in Andrex “mummy style” and hope for the best? Well, maybe not…but at Greenwichmums we get it. We have four children, so we’ve done all the digging around and brought you the best of this weeks half term, and Halloween all rolled into one!

Oxygen-free Jumping
From pin the bow on Little O to touch and feel boxes, Oxygen has a range of games with some great prizes up for grabs at their half-term Halloween themed disco. On Friday, November 1st, at 5 pm, Scary slush and scary sweets will be served in their scary café for those who haven’t got their trick or treat fix. Take a jump through their park after dark and explore the fab-boo-lous wonders of Oxygen at Halloween. Will you jump your socks off?
Old Royal Naval College
Part of The Big Draw, the worlds world’s biggest celebration of drawing, illustrator Nick Ellwood is running a series of workshops for children age 7-12 to get them seeing and thinking about their world through the lens of an artist. Using the Old Royal Naval College grounds and stunning Painted Hall as inspiration, the workshops will incorporate a range of drawing skills. The workshops will be held at the Old Royal Naval College on the 24th, and 25th October at various times. Special offer for Greenwich Mums members: two kids for £12 (save £4) enter code GMBIGDRAW. Greenwich Market
You and your pumpkins are invited to the fun-filled Halloween Happenings on Freaky Friday (October 25th) at Greenwich Market. Witches, monsters, skeletons and ghosts – we have lots of spine-tingling entertainment for you thanks to Dr Death and his curious stalls, ghoulish music and fantastic pumpkins – making SE10 even spookier than ever. Halloween Cutty Sark Gardens
This is the annual Halloween event at the historic Cutty Sark Gardens Greenwich with the ship of many secrets. There will be magic shows, ghoulish looking stalls, and slime to navigate, pumpkins to carve and witches to hunt. Joining will be bloodthirsty face painters and ever tempting sweet stalls to go with the foul stench of the street food cauldrons, and if you can go to the trouble, there will be lots of craft and rubble to go in the witches potions. 25th – 27th October.
Halloween at The Jetty
Come dressed in your Halloween best for witchy crafts and ghoulish games on Greenwich Peninsula. Get involved in some autumnal arts, and crafts then head along The Tide in search of tricks or treats. Listen to a spooky story with a warm drink and snack from Hej – The Jetty’s resident café. All are welcome, but parents must accompany their children for the afternoon of fun. Places are limited, so don’t forget to book your spot.
Eltham Palace and Gardens
Grab your broomsticks for a bewitchingly brilliant day out at Eltham Palace and Gardens this Halloween half term. Get hands-on with creepy crafts and a wicked witch-themed quest. There’s a fancy dress competition every day – come in your best witch and wizard outfits to be in with a chance of winning. Plus, meet some amazing animals – including snakes, spiders and more – and learn all about these creepy crawly creatures. For more info and daily details click here
Severndroog Castle
On the Sunday morning of October 27th, Severndroog is hosting a Family Craft Activity at the Castle between 9.30 am, and 10.30 am for anyone who would like to join in. With the help of our volunteer, we will be helping you create your very own Paper Lantern to hang! More details here.
Royal Observatory
Join our Royal Observatory Astronomers for a peaceful and calm morning of exploring Mars and space in a planetarium show followed by a slot for a workshop. Take a virtual walk on Mars with our virtual reality activity to feel what it is like to step onto the planet and identify features on the Martian surface. This will be combined with meteorite handling and a chance to ask astronomers about the possibility of life on Mars. This activity is perfect for those children with SEN
The Albany
Ever wondered what it would be like to sit on a polar bear’s lap? Or ride on its back? Have you ever tried to give a polar bear a bath, or clear up its poo? One night when she’s fast asleep, Tilly is visited by an enormous bear. It has a big black tongue and a yawn as big as your head. But Tilly’s not scared. Under 1 Roof
Join Einstein’s Entertainers Halloween Science Workshop at Under 1 Roof this October half term for a Halloween science slime workshop. In these hands-on workshops, the kids will be learning all of the different properties of slime, along with making vegetables explode. The children will, of course, make some of their very own custom made SLIME take home with them.
Greenwich Theatre
Greenwich Theatre has some fantastic family theatre for all to enjoy. From a scarecrow’s wedding to a pirate adventure, there’s something for everyone this half term. The Scarecrow’s Wedding promises wit, drama and wedding bells! Packed with live music and laughter, this is one hour’s magic that you and your children will never forget.
