Café Rouge Greenwich has always been up there on our list of good local family restaurants. Welcoming and great with the kids, it’s never really let us down. However recently, eagle eyed residents among you would have noticed it has had a bit of a refit.
So we’ve taken the opportunity to pop in and take a look around.
What first strikes you is the decor. Gone are the bright yellow Parisian wall prints of black cats and associated memorabilia, being replaced by an chicer interior that feels familiar but brighter and just a bit more modern. Some of the service stations have moved to make way for additional seating and it certainly feels bigger.
This could be because they added some nice white tiling to the room pillars and lightened the wall coverings but suffice to say the changes are subtle.
It still feels like Café Rouge – just better.
The kids menu has had a re-vamp too, with a few extra choices on both the mains and desserts. Our monkeys both opted for the heathy starter of crudités with a light tomato salsa, followed by cheeseburgers and Chilly Billy’s. We, on the other hand, went for a rustic sharing platter of cheese and charcuterie with a classic Steak Frites and a Tarragon Chicken followed by a Café Rouge staple – the Creme Brûlée. Portions were generous and well presented.
To be honest, everything was excellent – as was the service – but then for us, the service always has been.
Waiters and waitresses talk to the kids and are on hand to distribute the activity crayons and balloons just at the right moments. Maybe it’s because the manager is a family man, who’s also a local and understands – making sure his team does too. You don’t get too many relaxing lunches when you have kids of a certain age, but this certainly was one for us.
Whatever it is though, Café Rouge Greenwich seems to have the right combination. We recommend you pop in and see them soon, and if you do, tell them we said hi!
