Review – The Last Five Years

Screen Shot 2014-05-16 at 10.02.58Its strange isn’t it that in life there is always 3 sides to a story – his side , her side and the truth that sits in the middle.

With The Last Five Years you get a rare glimpse of this truth. A musical that tells the tale of Cathy and Jamie as they fall in and out of love over the course of the last 5 years.

Its intimate and expertly staged and I loved how I could see the orchestra performing too, for me it gave depth and extra emotion to each character as they sang through the ups and downs of their marriage – its thought provoking and you do fall in and out of love with both as the story unfolds.

Its been a while since I’ve listened to someone who made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end (Cathy – Danielle Hope of Over the Rainbow fame) or laughed at some real ironic truths. – The last five years is spot on fab!

We Say…

The cinema is great and – I know this is going to sound very high brow and isn’t meant to be – but, the Theatre is even better. Especially if it’s small and intimate like ours at Greenwich, being literally a few feet from the stage will make you and the kids really feel part of the process. And if yours are anything like ours, it’ll be two big thumbs up!
