Easter family fun at Greenwich Dance and Trinity Laban

Crossing the Creek adInternational circus and street theatre company Mimbre will perform the world premiere of Bench, sketches in movement and acrobatics, at a new family-oriented dance weekend, Crossing the Creek, on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 April.

Hosted by Greenwich Dance and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, the weekend will feature a host of performances, activities and workshops for all ages across the two venues at The Borough Hall, Greenwich and Laban Building, Deptford

The varied line-up includes Windibops a dance show about flatulence, Haka workshops and Drawing Dance – the creation of a giant picture through drawing and movement.

Brian Brady, Head of Laban Theatre Programming, said: “This weekend brings together an exciting range of activities for all family members, regardless of age, who can work and play together discovering different journeys. If you’re looking for something special and a bit different to do in the Easter holidays, this is the place to be.”

Kat Bridge, Artistic Director at Greenwich Dance added: “South East London is a hotbed for dance, and with two leading venues just a five minute walk apart, on either side of Deptford Creek, we wanted to create a fun weekend where families can come and explore the variety of dance on offer on your doorstep.”

Mimbre’s work Bench is a series of sketches bound together by a silent narrator, using acrobatics and movement to enable the performers to magically transition between ages and gender, caricatures and characters. Accompanied by a beautiful score by Ted Barnes, events, encounters and feelings are turned into beautiful dance. Bench is one of the first three Compass Commissions, supported by The Greenwich Dance & Trinity Laban Partnership.
